Political Pride

My Pride is Political However, my politics can walk a fine line at times. Politicians

Toronto municipal elections are this fall. The following individuals are candidates for mayor.
George Smitherman
has held the posts of minister of health, and minister of energy and infrastructure in the Ontario provincial government. He is openly gay and currently the front runner in the race for the mayor's chair. Federal Party Politics
Note, there are no photos of the current ruling Conservative Party because they were not in the parade this year, at least not visibly.

Pride Toronto faced one of its most divisive controversies in years over its decision to ban the phrase "Israeli apartheid" from the parade, part of the name of the group Queers Against Israeli Apartheid that was planning to march in the parade. The ban came amid reports of parade sponsors threatening to withdraw support if the group was allowed to march with its controversial messaging intact. Following intense pressure from community activists, who cited Pride's long history of support for free speech, Pride Toronto reversed the ban. Kulanu Toronto, a Toronto Jewish LGBTQ social group opposed the reversal. This post cannot begin to address all of the issues raised over the previous months of debate. Instead I offer, with respect to all parade participants and viewers, photos of the messages that both sides worked to convey during the parade. The post is not a complete representation of all the messaging; it includes what I was able to capture.
